Good News: The National Guard has signed on as the major sponsor for hydroplane racing in San Diego. The rooster tail-spraying unlimited hydroplanes return to the Mission Bay waters for the Bayfair Races scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 17th-19th. Pleasanton, Calif. -- Jerry and Maureen Magnuson’s “Magnatude” ’32 Muroc roadster, hand-formed by Marcel and designed by Chip Foose, was named America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod presented by Hushpower at the Goodguys 24th West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton this past weekend.
With the win, Magnatude made it a clean sweep this year, winning all three major street rod awards offered by the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. In April the car won the Goodguys Street Rod d’Elegance crown and was named Goodguys/Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year in Columbus. In being named Goodguys America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod, it marked the first time a car has swept all three coveted awards in the same calendar year.For the full story on Magnatude, CLICK HERE! NASCAR will kick off this coming weekend with truck racing at Kentucky Speedway on Friday night . . . but did you know that Jennifer Jo Cobb is on the verge of setting a record; that Kyle Busch is going after his 80th career series victory . . . and that he just got the 75th win for Toyota? True, all of 'em.

Oh, and we're going to be hitting the road as well . . . for another epic trek. This time in a Lexus RX-450h that will meet us at the airport in Washington, D.C., then after touring historic sites like Harper's Ferry, the Manassas Battlefield and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, we'll make a run up the I-95 all the way to Maine, with interesting stops along the way. Look for the travelogue and review in about three weeks!
Normally, when we get to test a car, it's delivered with a full tank of gasoline . . . and over a week, maybe we get to use up half a tank. When we head off to Podunk, we get to live with a car, fill the tank five or six times, and really get to know it.
