Good News: The National Guard has signed on as the major sponsor for hydroplane racing in San Diego. The rooster tail-spraying unlimited hydroplanes return to the Mission Bay waters for the Bayfair Races scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 17th-19th.

It marks the return of the  jet-powered boats after a year’s absence . . . and sponsorship problems since Budweiser pulled out in 2007. For more on this story, see the Racing News Section.

As it stands, Will Power has a tenuous 23-point lead over Dario Franchitti as the IZOD IndyCar Series heads for Kentucky Speedway for a race on Saturday night. You can see this race, the Kentucky Indy 300 on VERSUS at 8 p.m. (Eastern).
